on the bolt works just fine, the readings are just a little delayed and lower then they are under the plug. I too had the cht on the bolt on my italian cast 250 due to the reasons you have stated. on the both GT kits I have its under the plug because the sensor fits fine on a porcupine GT head with out any modifications.

For now I am, as long as you know what the normal operating temp is you should be able to keep an eye on the trend.

If you have EGT and CHT you generally don't want to see the EGT going down and the CHT going up significantly, that's a bad sign.
