Ok so we can assume the 12v supply is ok. You have connected the mod charger direct to the black and red of rhe gauge. If my memory is correct the thermo senso comes with a stainless braded outer and a red and blue? Inner. Mine had fork connectors that I had no way of connecting to the last 2 wires on the gauge. These connections are very sensitive to resistance as the gauge measures resistance changes. I soldered the solid inner wire to the gauge but they are very fine solid core wires. Solder and heat shrink is the way to go.

Hi Monty, what do you mean by 'heat shrink' ?
EDIT - got it, just googled it
So you think I should solder the wire from the sensor into the back of the gauge rather than use the connector it came with?

So has your probe got a plug on the end and a matching plug on the gauge. If it has how are you swapping them round? If it does have a plug the connection is as I said critical so it needs to be tight. You could try bending the pin a small amount to ensure it has a good connection. Try bending one pin up the other down just a tad.

Alan have you by accident ever connected the gauge to a power source by the sensor connectors?if you have then the gauge is wanked. An AA Duracell was enough to scupper my plans.

The probe has no plug on the end just two wires, blue and white. The gauge came with a connector that goes into it with blue and white wires to connect to those on the probe. I twisted the wires together and wrapped them with insulation tape at first but have now joined them with proper connectors:-)

Really running out of things here. Stable volts in good connections. Good earth's. Not sure what you have used as proper connectors but I hope they are not crimp on ones go for a good solder connection. I would use heat shrink but insulation tape would do. I have spent today wiring my mates bike and every crimp has been cut out and all connections have been soldered and heat shrunk. Seen to many terminals come off. Good luck.

I have been through everything now and have decided to order a new probe to rule out that it is faulty. Anyhoo, many thanks for your help mate
