There's Soley Scooters in Rochdale but I don't fancy their 3 month turnover period.

If the top end turns over ok by turning the flywheel then I'd question if it is not an issue with the kickstart or transmission. I've had a clutch circlip pop out and cause issue. It might be worth having the side casing off for a peak before starting to strip the top end.

This is something I.m beginning to lean towards.

From here we can all speculate on the cause based on our interpretations of your descriptions and none of us will know anything for sure till you tell us what it was.


There's two ways your going to find that out.


1. Hand it to a shop and put your hand in your wallet.

2. Get the Stickys book or the sausage DVD and dive in. You'll need a few special tools but you might could borrow this locally or hire them but these engines are not that complicated and in the end of the day you'll have TWO Lambretta based hobbies riding it and fixing it.

Are you saying it didn't turn over with the fan guard on, but will turn over with it removed?

Can the head/barrel be taken off without removing the engine?
No difference if fan guard is on or off. Could it be a broken ring?

1) can you turn the engine by the flywheel with no problems (i.e. no noise or catching/ jamming)?

2) does it only catch/ jam/ scrape if you use the kick start?

my monies on a broken kick start shaft or something in that area.

It can.

Take the footboards off and the exhaust.

With the exhaust off you will be able to see in the exhaust port. Take the shocker off and you should be bale to remove the head cowling and cylinder head. Then if you remove the carb manifold you should be able to get the barrell off.

It might be worth taking the chaincase cover off first as that's a nice easy check. Drain the oil. Slip the clutch cable out and remove the nuts then lift it off. You might need to work the kickstart to break the seal

Yes but only 1 revolutionthen it jams, turns back 1 rev then jams.

Only scrapes when using kick start. Sometimes it will kick a few times, others only once then jams.
