Got Schwalbe Racemans on the cutdown but after all the horror stories I think i must have some from the origonal batch as I bought them 3 years ago and they seem ok so far, fingers crossed

got the very same racemans from a "safe" batch for more than a year and I must confess they are from far away the best tyres I've ever had (twist, K1, sava, SI....). Stuck to the road, perfectly steered.. A gas!

The only one that I've had an issue with was a Weatherman and when the tyre technician checked it only had 16 psi in the rear BUT I'm sure my customer would have only had that pressure in regardless of brand of tyre. While that wouldn't have helped the road holding and longevity of the tyre had it been any other brand but Schwalbe i'm fairly sure that it wouldn't have developed a Schwalbe tumour. If it was purely down to pressure then this would have always been an issue throughout the scootering years.
For me that represented one tyre out of at least 100 sold, but several hundred of other brands have never had a single issue.
I thought I might have been lucky in that it may have been down to a recent dodgy batch but I only ever bought them from MB when they were the distributors so that quashed that theory.
Saw a "tumour" on a Sportsman dual compound one today, which p*ssed me off as I thought they were immune and I was going to fit a set to some SIP tubeless for myself. B*gger!


I gave a pair of the new Michelin City Grip winter tyres to a mate who rides 365 days a year in all conditions, rain, snow, ice ... the lot and he loves them, done over 3,000 miles so far and still plenty of life left in them.

Guess there is some strong personal experience and convictions on tyres huh ?

I had set my mind on some Pirelli S1 until I read a very good tyre appraisal on MB's site and read about the MC18. It wasn't a very scientific selection I just liked the look of the tread patterns lol

I'm leaning towards the Sava at the moment

They look well priced too at €25.

Most Schwalbes are probably ok. The trouble is, if they aren't ok, you die. So on balance, I'll give them a miss.

muttley what do you mean its like riding on wets ?
Would the Mich city grip's be a good choice for dry country roads to give plenty of grip in the dry ?

what about the Conti Twist Race tyres ?

Reading through Mr B's recommendations he says its best to use a soft walled tyre for ultimate grip and feedback ? Would these be too soft to use on roads ? He states that you get excellent feedback and grip in both wet and dry conditions.

I'm not worried about wear and the tyres lasting, I far rather trade that for extra grip and feedback as I'm only likely to do 500+ miles a year in the dry .

Conti Race are just that. soft and very little tread...

Conti Twist Road are good tyres, last ok, and grip in all conditions
I used Schwalbe Racemans until all those scary photos
I'd say the Contis are better, but possibly some auto-suggestion there...

Yokahamas are good, just shame they don't have the right E mark for use in the UK...

Sava's mc18 are my faves at the moment but in the pas it was always zippy 1 continentals
