this was from early test, managed to get it a bit better, but the light is very good.



hope they do one of them clear halogen units for the GP, its been my number 1 wish since I got a scooter

yes, I fitted the HID to Tidd's series II skelly. Apart from all the connections, ballast packs & wiring needed, the problem was it didn't like switching between main & dip, it would take too long [although only a second or less, but that's too much on a dark road] to get back to full strength. I think I rewired it so momentarily both main & dip were on and that was ok, but then, yes I seem to recall problems with the beam using the oe lens, and no suitable replacement could be found. I ended up rewiring it more conventionally in the end...

Especially given those of us with Series 1s and 2's as the bulbholder only has about 3 wires anyway which are likely direct replacements

I have fitted the following behind the hollowed-out GP headlight. They are two LED spot-lights. One for dip and one for main beam.







These are supplemented by a strip of LED which provide the side-lights. As you can see, I have re-terminated all the wires in the headset on 6.3mm spade connectors.

Pity the diameter is so small otherwise they would be good mounted inside a spotlight body (assuming you could lose the rear casing) GThe light output looks good, far better that the LED H3 lamps I tried

The spot lights shown in the ebay listing are the same as mine, but I have the earlier 9W headlight as my dipped light, but the main beam is 27w. Whilst neither is particularly focused, they do put a hell of a lot of light out there. You certainly won't my full-beam shining in your rear view mirror. The guy in Hong Kong was conversant in English and very helpful. The lights themselves are beautifully made: really solid CNC machined items.

In my installation, the 9w unit stays on all the time, and is supplemented by the 27w item. That's 35w with both on, which is the same as the wattage of the original incandescent lamp, but much more light.

I use a 12v Wassell DC system, which puts 14.4v into the circuit in order to charge the battery. The extra volts are not a problem for these LED's, which should be OK with 30v.

I came across a dealer selling these at the Motorcycle Show a couple of years ago. They were charging £75 each for these but justified this because they modified each one to deal with the heat (!?). There is no heat. It's only 9w (or 27w) and it's not hot. I think this mistook lumens for watts. Bonkers.

How does the light perform at night down those Suffolk and Essex lanes, that's the acid test I think. Someone (maybe on here) was ravinbg about led lamps fitted in his spots. I bought a pair of 50 watt equivalents and fitted one in a pair of 4" spots. Although very bright, the light was very difused and nowhere near as good as the 35 watt halogen in the other one. Your spots seem to have a reflector behind them which must focus the beam?

There are loads of 2.5" lens HID's on ebay sold specifically for bikes. £20 upwards. That's for a bi-xenon, so main and dip in one, a little solenoid operated shutter controls which beam you get so no pause. Also had an angle eye which I suppose might do for a side light.
