The top coats and the satin clear laquer are now going on. As you can see the works are being done on the side of the road in true Asian style. However the results are very good and easily on par with what Joe Average (ie me) might be able to achieve at home with a compressor and spray gun in the shed thats before you consider the amount of man hours needed to produce such a finished result. Admittedley i am sure Paul karslake wont be losing any sleep over the competition but having said that all the parts materials and labour for this bare metal paint job cost me less than a hundred quid, so i aint complaining.

Wheels - Just finished making these up to replace the bent and (going) rusty chrome wheel rims - This is as clean as they will ever be so thought i would post a picture of them up here to mark the occasion.

Finally got the frame back at 5pm on Valentines day and spent the next two hours mocking the scooter up, as you can imagine the wife was a bit pissed off, i dont know why the scooter looked great :P this was the first time i had seen all the parts put together on the reworked frame and i am well pleased with the way it looked. The style is exactly what i was after with a tough agressive stance.

There are a few gremlins to iron out namely the bolts on the base of the seat hit the frame plate inside the new seat part of the frame and i also forgot that the excel forks dont have a groove cut in them to allow the headset bolt to lock the headset into position - Doh !!! So i will have to get those sorted out before i can get stuck into the cabling up.

I will spend this weekend fiddling with it and post some more pictures as things progress - watch this space.

That's certainly a bit different!
Are you going to have a front mudguard or stay naked?

I am gonna have a go at a tiny hugger type mudguard (bit like the one on a series II Lambretta) - it will be close to the wheel and fixed to the shock to move at a set distance off the wheel but it wont be having a standard type vespa mudguard fitted - if i cant manage to fabricate one i will leave it naked like this - never rains here anyway :D

Today i started on the hugger front mudguard -looks a bit rough at the moment but its going in the right direction. I have offered it up to the wheel and to be honest i am still undecided as to use any muguard at all - i kind of like the front wheel uncovered.
I will continue to bash and cut this into the shape i am looking for to see if i can persuade myself otherwise.

Over the weekend i addressed the issue of the cut out in the forks - with a half round file - what a b@5t@rd of a job !!!!
That will teach me never to overlook this issue again.

Today i have started to add all the other bits and pieces needed to fire this baby up by the weekend (fingers crossed) i have got as far as the wiring loom through the frame, the horn shell, the choke knob, the rear brake pedal, rear lights, number plate bracket, spare wheel, petrol tank and fuel tap plus a few other bits and pieces including changing the rear tube which developed a puncture (despite it being fine when it was taken off the chopper)

I still have a few jobs to do including wiring and cabling, reworking the spare wheel disc (looks good, but never liked the way it sat on the chopper) adding a kick bar on the side stand, as the new wider floor deck now covers it too much for my foot to be able to get it down.Getting a number plate made up, fiddling with the front mudguard, running the fuel line through the frame and finally fitting the seat properly bolted to the frame.

Despite the list of outstanding jobs the scooter is starting to shape up nicely i think.
