How are you going to balance it. Surely it'll vibrate like a b@stard unless it's spot on.

Quick update.

Here is the newly rebossed flywheel (with a new fan):

And here is my new fashioned flywheel holder:

and how the holder fits the flywheel:

All timed up now and ready to test.

My advice to anyone with a Varitronic ignition is to clean the threads on the boss very carefully before inserting a puller.

They seem to be made of cheese and strip very easily.

Upgrade to a new SIL boss if you have the patience to fettle it.

Cheers, and thanks to everyone's who gave advise in this post.

Did the holes line up ok or did you need to redrill some of the holes?
I've used one of these bosses on a sil flywheel and was easy fit, just needed to tap the holes in the flywheel to screw bolts in for a nice tight fit.
Has the keyway lined up in the same position?
Did the old rivets take much removing? Which way did you find best?
sorry for all the questions but I've got in my possession a varitronic flywheel with a faulty boss.

cheers ove.

No, 2 of the holes lined up, the rest had to be drilled (the Varitronic only having 6 rivets instead of the 8 on the new boss) or part covered holes enlarged

Has the keyway lined up in the same position?
Keyway was slightly off by a couple of mm, so just marked a new TDC point using the stop method and retimed

Not really, just drilled them out with a pillar drill

Hope those answers were useful to you

Cheers
