Ok so today i took the air hose off and after a few kicks it started. Had to have the throttle screw fully in but of course then the tickover is very high, then i turned the choke back off and it died.
Got it started again eventually ticking over fine. I put the air hose back on, still fine.
Turn fuel off, let it run down and cut out, kick it over using choke, starts up fine, choke back off, it dies.
I'm defineatly going for a new carb but it's annoying that i can get to the bottom of the problem, it seems to have a mind of it's own!!

i had same problem on my 175 jetex which had served me well for years got tempremental decided to get a 28mm delly open mouthed. would start with choke then die spoke to mike phoenix he said wind the mixture screw out another turn and hey presto problem gone.
i did get the delly on ebay for 54 quid mike phoenix does them checked and jetted for 79.99 I think it ended up costing me the same or more to rejet it. Works fine now no problems the jetex got really difficult to start for no apparent reason.

Ok finally got around to looking at this again.
It is still a t@@t to start and it seems to be worse as i work away from home and when it's left for a few weeks it can take half an hour to get it running. Once it starts it runs well. I can turn it off and it will kick up again no problem.
Some of you chaps have said ditch the crap jettex for something else which i intend to do, but.
A bloke in the shop where i go has some jettex carbs already jetted and the correct slide fitted for a 200. I've had a lot of stuff from him and he has been very helpful and seems to think this would solve my woes.
So, before i go out and spend more money, should i give one of these a go?

The consensus seems to be to ditch the Jetex so buying another isn't the answer. I've had a jetex and had the usual problems, changed to a delly and hasn't missed a beat...an another note: with you working away a fair bit could your petrol be deteriating in the tank ?

I think your choke is not working properly.

I did change the fuel as i thought this could be an issue but it didn't really make a noticable difference.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the morning.


I thought the choke was ok. I can see the plunger moving and seating as i use the choke lever.

maybe up the size of your choke jet ??

Iv'e uprated the main jet and pilot jet and changed the atomizer.
Not sure about the choke jet, is that different?

...'make the most of what you've got when in the desert'..... 175 knock up kit... add a champion N3C plug...if plug becomes wet through non starting, either kick it over full throtttle fuel off plug out or push round in first gear to clear out flood...dry plug in fuel on...'one prod of the self starting lever..' if it fires but won't start probably flooded... so fuel off,choke off and prod with full throttle...until it clears un runs...

...a Lambretta engine is a simple agricultural set up in standard form... add electronic ignition and it should run in any condition any where in the world.....
