Unable to start series 2

try another stator or the points set up if this doesnt work try another top end .i had this problem with a vejay tried to start it for 2 days i had tried everythinge had the top end off half a dozen times everythinge looked fine in the end tried another top end off a 150 special went second kick after that it was first kick every time

not sure if I have seen anyone reccomending this but have you tried removing the airbellow? Does it start without it? I am stuck thinking of a carburation issue...

Progress!! Right took air hose off, sprayed easy start, kicked like f**k and would start with throttle fully open, if I kept revving it would run for a fee seconds then die. It would start slightly easier at next attempt if I followed same process, but didn't need easy start again.

So......my next question is why doesn't it start with air hose/ filter on???

I've just read through this thread again and no one has mentioned checking out the carb, if it starts and revs a bit on full throttle and then dies, I'd strip the carb and blow through all the jets and orifices with compressed air or carb cleaner. Also. have you up jetted it with the new top end?

Carb was properly cleaned as were all jets. Ive replaced the original series 2 Carb with a sh1/20 m dellorto and jetted it as per a tv175, but I've up jetted the main by a few.

It wouldnt even start with just the hose attached with no filter, only if carb mouth is open and throttle fully open. Tank was chemically dipped and cleaned prior to fitting.

One thing I noticed was that the carb sits at quite tilt due to the engine mount being in the way, so can't get it to sit up any straighter, is this normal or do I need to open up the manifold holes more so I can get more clearance past the engine mount???

I will clean carb and jets again.

It depends how much of an angle (photo?) but with a standard carb you shouldn't have clearance prob :? lems

never uploaded a photo before, how do I do that? will take a pic when I get chance tomorrow.

manifold is original 175/20mm i had with the carb, but the carb bango touches the mount as soon as you try and make it sit up more straight, so was thinking if the manifold holes were opened up slightly I could seat it more to the left so i had more room to tilt the carb up.

Whatever you do, don't enlarge the stud holes, they are what accurately locate the manifold over the inlet port :shock:

You can rotate the fuel inlet bango by undoing the center bolt.
