Ok folks for anyone who may be interested.
The switch i bought turned out to a p**s poor part, which on admission from the seller was from a 'dodgy batch'
So after much headscratching and wasted time i sent it back.
I bought an Italian one from Allstyles which was £40 but wired straight in within minutes and works perfectly.
Lesson learnt, don't buy cheap crap switchs from ebay.
