Thanks for clearing that up Mark
These rims really sound like they'll be worth the wait, but is there any indication of availability? Spring, Summer, 2011 or 2012?
"It is no secret that BGM are developing a new Stainless Steel wheel rim for the Lambrettas.
These are made by a German manufacturer who make Stainless Steel rims for Mercedes, BMW and Porsche performance race cars. The quality is incredible, watching their video of a car running on a tarmac with no tires on, see the flames and smoke then watch a lady casually walk up and light a smoke on the rims! Then look at the rims....... perfect no marks!
The methods they use are very good with a rolled bead on the outside, apparently they can be dropped from great heights and do not deform.
To start with BGM are making these rims to suit standard widths. There could be a market eventually for wide rims as well. The quality is so high that split rims could also be made, as basically they are split rims welded together. For now I do believe that these are only coming in polished stainless steel, but know people are asking to paint them.
They come with a special tire valve developed with Mark Broadhurst, Renato and Marcus from Schwalbe, and the rest from Philipp Montforts and Scooter Center. Indeed it is a well thought out idea and honestly they will blow you away when you see the quality. The latest report from SCK is the tooling is been altered to improve tire fitting and a sample should reach them by 3rd week in January.
Unlike any other wheel rim on the market, these will meet or exceed German and EU safety standards and come with their approval. This process can be time consuming but in the end it will be worth it. These standards are higher than US DOT approval and will thus be able to carry the DOT APPROVED label. These will not be cheap items and should not be compared to similar unapproved items coming from SE Asia or other European manufacturers. This is the real deal."
