It would appear to me that SIP have redesigned their rim. Take a look at this, the old design...

Similar to the AF rim.

Now take a look at this and the thickness of the centre rib, enabling a deeper tyre well for easier fitting, also note the longer studs, they also confess to the Spanish hub issue...

I have fitted a Schwalbe Raceman to a NEW Sip rim, and it fitted easily. there's also no stress on the studs alone.

Fajes, what hub is that, and did you fit the longer studs?
Did the front rim fit perfectly too?

the hub is standard innocenti, fitted the included longer studs and it fitted everything very well.

Back to the nut/stud issue.
I am nearly 100% certain that on all the mag ali. wheel that I have ever removed from trucks and cars, the nut is tapered on the end the goes into the rim and the rim is tapered to receive that nut, thereby giveng a larger spread of holding area. No washers or lock washers. That would be a good idea design on these.
That gap looks well dodgy

SOME might have that type of fitting, but all of the aftermarket alloys I have had have had a sleeve nut with a washer similar to the AF ones. It is important though that the stud is long enough to pick up the threads inside the hex part of the nut. I bought a set of alloys back in the 70's and the fitter ignored my request that he use a torque wrench on the nuts. He tols me that "When you've fitted as many wheels as he had a torque wrench wasn't necessay" The car was up on a 2 post lift at the time and when the first nut let go just after he's moved onto the next wheel it hit the wall on the other side of the workshop like a frikin bullet. 3 went in total before he got the torque wrench out somewhat sheepishly . In truth though the studs weren't long enough and I had but some longer ones

Has anyone tried to fit one of these rims to a lambretta innovations tubeless hub, or if they could, would they offer one up to see the fit ,would like to know if they are in any way compatable.Got a tubeless hub an like the look of the sip rims, cheers lammer205.

that black sip rim looks a much better fit than the af one , an its butted rite uo against the hub as is should be i no were my money would go if i had any rite now lol on the S.I.P ones tidy looking rim,s

This cant be good for AF. They are really up against it now what with SIPs latest version of what appeared to be the same rim as the AF one. They seem to have addressed both the gap issue, ease of fitment and thrown longer studs into the mix for good measure.

I wonder how many AF have left before they can follow suit.....
