Exactly my point, so why then does JB charge threble that for the same rod?

I had a few PM's from a certain somebody the other day and it was like a breath of fresh air, no mysteries, no trying to get me to buy what they had, a few tips for free and generally what I think good service is about, top man.

Unfortunatly for me I cant buy a engine case for £655 nor a frame for £1200, (not that I would) that only helps push the price of every Lambretta part up the chart, which leaves me and I would imagine a few others, b@11@x'd.

id be interested in the prices altho you dont need to put the dealer down, places like MBD will have higher overheads because they offer so much more in terms of development and new parts others will just crack on doing there own thing on a tried and tested way and perhaps dont feel the need to offer anything new , theres nothing wrong in either attitude or business idea
i agree with some folk bigging up prices they will have you believe that building a tv 200 from scratch will cost over 13.5 k for parts alone or say xyz dealer in italy has something for sale at £1500 when all along its way overpriced just so they can sell more at what looks like a bargain price

It wouldnt be a witch hunt, not up for ruining people.

Being in a service industry I know that the cheapest is not always the best but a part is a part no matter where it comes from, I couldnt tell my punters that the brick they want is over 3 times what I can buy it for, I just wouldnt get the work but here in the land of Lambretta anything goes and people still pay the money.. madness (not that fella up north, just utter madness)

I know it would never happen but a write up in a well read mag might not go a miss, bit of mystery shopping on a common part and or a service, like splitting a crank say

My work is getting tighter and tighter and prices/wages are falling so its all revelent to todays market, imho.

You got lucky on that piston deal. Direct from Wiseco, with the dealer pricing is 93 dollars...

it was a kawasaki one not weisco, postage cost me $28

Hi, I know its not the same rod but I just got a 110 yam rod fitted into a SIL crank for £20. The rod I used was this one I got in touch with the seller to check it was the right rod as the first one i looked at didn't have any oil lube slots in the bigend and they were helpfull and pointed me in the right direction. They have the rd400 rod as well.
I had it done by a local motorcycle repair shop. I had the webs machined where I work so that didn't cost anything and the crank cost just under £20 off ebay. I've checked the crank on v blocks and a dti and its spot on, very minimal throw. Total inc crank, rod and fitting....£73. They also said they could weld it for me if I wanted. It might be worth checking out a local motorcycle place, after all a single cylinder crank is the same as any other.

If I was to have a crank done for me rather than doing it myself. I would recomend grampian motors (import and export), from Crosby. You will find that a lot of the top dealers use these people and then charge you a bit on top (there cut).

Grampians will gladly fit your bits for you.

However if you can get it done localy it will prevent the postie damaging it in transit.
