I think the best was achived a few years back, and cannot be improved further without destroying the essence of the machine ( the frame and crankcase ) so whats the point if your not planning to race one ??, most tunes are only refinements of basic tunes from years gone by with very few real world improvments/overhaul gain's.

That was my point. I didn't mention the speed just the spec. Looks like a good touring engine which is what a lot of people are yearning for these days. I have a Rapido 225 tuned by Ralph and can't wait to see if it's as torquey as he said it would be. I bet it is

If i remember correctly,that RS250 did a 1/4 in just over 14 seconds.Thats mental in a full frame.A guy in Swindon owns the motor now I think. You think that the RB had the DNA from this? It hit 90 on the 1/4 so im sure the timing gear used is pretty accurate and if it does it on the 1/4 then there is still more to come!

If scooter tuning hasn't moved on it's because physics hasn't moved on. The laws of thermodynamics haven't changed.

Lambrettas were designed to be urban commuter machines that did 50mph and 70+mpg. Without a wholesale redesign, the basic engine setup is just not suitable for the sort of reliable, ridable performance that a modern engine designed for the job will do. RD125LCs were giving nearly 30BHP, out of the box 20 years ago. A mates modern Honda 125 will whizz along all day at more than 70mph.

Sure thing but a Honda 125 doesnt have a set of legshields on the front.

Yeah, My two year old won them in a Junior Lambretta Club competition in Jetset, he likes them......honest

Interesting topic.

In this day and age (with the crazy petrol prices) it's more about mpg and reliability than out and out top speed.

It's all about shrinking down the carb size and getting more MPG without killing the power.
