Ian.. as always, National Geographic didn't make you one of their top photo shooters for a reason... Intense first views of thescoot, but I still am thirsty for a full size view of the beast, in the sunlight if possible (I know in England that is asking for a lot!)

Already have the frame. It's in my Dining Room. :-)

Anyone know what the exhaust is made from? Looks like a Vespa Exhaust.

As a Replica, do you know how old it is? How do they know what was actually done? I've found pictures very hard to come by.[/quote]

Hi,
Sausage built this a few years ago....I think as abit of fun, but also to climb the Mersea Rally sea wall, which it did very quickly hahaha
I admire you courage in planning this trip. I'm not so sure that you would need to do all of the alterations as done on an original trials, and it might be wiser to adapt your scoot to your particular trip and use some of todays modern improvements that they didn't have in them days?. For instance the LD style mudguard could be swapped for whatever you like....and the LD style quick access cowling that allowed acess to the points set-up easier might be better adapted so that you can remover the whole flywheel and gain access to the electronic components (I trust you are going electronic for this trip?)
You would need a larger fuel tank plus maybe even another one, plus somewhere to carry substantial tools / spares. A spare is essentila too. Using sidepanels allows you to carry panniers easier for clothes / tent / sleeping bag etc which in turn frees up space for much of the above. Anyway whatever you decide please keep us updated and post some pics...
There was a great article in Scootering mag a few years back, somebody will remember the issue number I'm sure, that listed all the modifications done, but pleas let me know if you need anymore info.
Oh n the exhaust is a standard lammy one cut and then cut some more.......I'll pretend you never mentioned the V word

I have the Scootering mags with the info on the S6DT replica. Thanks for the pointer though.

I do want to get as close to the original as possible. There will be a few changes, though. The idea of cutting the rear foot board leg off is something I can't bare to think of, so I'll mirror the Drive side so one can be bolted on. Yes, I'm definitely intending to have electronic.

When I looked at pics of the originals, I thought they had a bigger tank, and actually have one already. I had a 14L tank for the ride across Australia, which was perfect.

I was intending to do sidepanels. If you watch the videos, they certainly had them.

Obviously I'm going to have to add a rear light.

East to West I actually had Panniers, etc and tried to do it as though I was unaided. Seriously weighed the scooter down.

I wont be doing this unaided. That would be insane. some sections just have too few people to risk a break down.

So far I have interest for about 6 Australians, 6 Americans, and Tino reckons he has 30 Italians who want to do the ride with me. So, I'm not the only crazy person! It also means we can pay for backup vehicles.

Sorry to steal your thread, but the timing is perfect. The project will be along one, but pictures will be posted.

I have to sell the Jag first, so I can finish building my garage :-(

I was looking at my old posts. I did the ride. It was written up in Classic Scooterist Scene.

Here's a few pics. I call it the Australian 23 days trial. I actually had a Casa big bore S1/2 pipe on it for the ride. I couldn't get the exhaust made like the original.

During: This was the main road on Day 2. This was a good bit. Dirt for 800km.

Well if you'd paid attention, you could've done the Australian 23 Days Trial, where the first 800km of the total 7000km was Dirt. And for some sections, calling it Dirt was being kind.

Kind of makes the UK coast to coast look a bit pathetic really :-o
