Sorry Col, I missed your post. I don't know if it's a dry joint but it was the first thing I noticed when it came back, not the sort of joint you'd expect from a stator winding company
I haven't checked anything yet, but I would expect the components to have been checked. Just sounding things out before I contact them on Monday, but I'm not happy. How do I check it?

Yes, we're at cross purposes. The pick up on the rewound one would appear to be taller and therefore closer to the inside of the flywheel. Which is what I was driving at. But as you point out it does sit back on the laminates. More so than the BGM. It's curious, but I haven't got a clue what it means. The only thing it does prove is to buy a BGM in the first place and have done with it.

firstly i would re solder that red wire, and check readings from tester..
secondly,i think the gap /position of pick up can and does make a difference..
also its height relative to magnets..
as has been explained before on here it is sometimes required to remove two lamminates ...
..but basically the two poles on the pick up need to be in align with the magnet tongues...
and the gap needs to be the least it can be in order to recieve the strongest magnetic force to trigger the pick up....
greater gaps produce weaker sparks and also affect timing as can be seen when strobing....

Not really as the BGM doesn't put out enough power. In the early stages this stator rewind was much better than any BGM, and appeared to be part of the best electrical sytem seen on a Lambretta to date, just seems mine was done on a Friday afternoon

I'm not re soldering anything, they can re-do it, it wasn't cheap to have done in the first place

How do I check the readings?
Removing laminates on a SIL stator that previously worked fine?

ok matey,...I presume you have stickys manual...so see page 110..on advice as to check stator readings..

And it's still not Italian (see other thread). You could file the pick up. I have done this before with Indian products.

read this post again and take note.
1, it looks like a dry joint
2, the height of the pick up is crucial
I am not a lambretta person but what this bloke says are the two things that I would look at as a starting point.

As suspected all the readings tally with those in Sticky's book, so I can only assume pickup position is the problem. I shall get a BGM pickup and ask for that to be fitted.
Out of interest, is it possible to identify the origins of this one?
