help starting it up

Its a 186 mugello brand new
bgm 120 stator ducati cdi, sparks there and the gap has been set to .5mm
squish is fine no probs and within allowed parameters..
carbs a keihin pwk 28/30

did you check your piston ring gap b4 fitting piston, or is the chain too tight, it sounds like it's too stiff to get enough revolution to start, gearbox endplate shimmed correctly

Just been out to the garage to try and break my leg again :lol:

regarding the chain, there was a good 6mm of play...
the gearbox endplate has the right tolerance between the shim...
the only thing i didn't check is the piston ring gap, i assumed with it being a brand new barrel and piston it would be ok
like i said before, if i take the plug out it kick starts fine no problems what so ever.

the only thing i can hear is when i manually turn the flywheel i get a rubbing sound like rubber rubbing... squeaking..

i fear the worsed :? :? :? strip :?:

if compression is good ,and fuel is getting through........and your spark is occuring at the right time.......it should start...
i suspect that your maybe just not kicking it hard enough........before you strip it try bumping it off....and get a mate to push you.....
but dont crash it into gear as some do....put it into first gear and hold clutch lever in before bumping off ....and once some pushing speed has been reached release clutch quickly.....and if it fires up ,pull clutch lever back in and rev it a bit to clear it......

i had a similar problem,turned out to be a coil on the stator and a crap indian cdi unit,check stikys book for readings regarding all the coils,good luck....is timing and woodfuff key where they should be!
how much!!!

do appreciate your replies guys ;)

stator plate is brand new bgm 120

timing is set ok, coil is brand new ducati and regulator is a ducati brand new....

i've got a friend popping tomorrow, see if he can brake his leg :lol: :lol:

Lee two other things to check. What flywheel do you have fitted? I ask because there have been problems with the BGM stator lining up with the trigger magnets inside certain types flywheel. The other thing is, is the carb an OKO PWK copy, or a true Keihin PWK? If its a copy, then sometimes you have to strip the carb and remove the float. At 90 degrees to the float pin there is a hole that allows fuel from the float valve down into the float bowl. That hole needs to be reamed out with a 1mm drill. Secondly, when you look down into your carb from above where the slide fits, you will see the main jet. Just behind it towards the engine side of carb is a tiny hole, which is the pilot. This can get gummed up or blocked with glue/gasket which holds the two halves of the carb together. You can take a 1/2mm drill bit held with long nosed pliers and check that it will go through that hole clearly (take pilot jet out first). After you've checked, place carb on bench with a bright light shining through from below. Block the main jet with a finger, and by moving the light up and down you should get some light through the small pilot drilling. Also blow through with an air duster.

can someone tell me which connections should go were on my regulator as i think this may be my problem

i have a 5 pin ducati 12v dc (told i can use this but disregard the others which are for battery)

green, green, brown+, c, earth

i have the yellow from the stator into the first green
i have the brown from the loom into the second green
i have earth into earth
