The engine I have had for a long time, it came out of a Kawazaki KX 500 motorcrosser. It is the "slightly" tammer non power valve model. Still with a re-plate/ re-sleeve it should give 70 bhp. So I think I will have to play with the gearing a little till I get it right. There is a good gearing chart on Sticky's website. I also had a spare frame upstairs in a wardrobe, but sending an Italian GP 200 frame to be cut up would be too painful, so I got a new Indian one for £ 60 of a mate. As for the cost, well I'm at a stage in my life where I have no money worries anymore. Kids have both flown the nest and work is good and pays well. So in collecting parts I have bought new where I can, it just make going together a bit easier I think. I have every single part to put it back together now, all over the spare bedroom. Cost so far I would say a little over £4.5k. I have done a spread sheet, but will have to learn how to post, maybe convert to http format???????

Yeh thanks, in choosing an engine for this project I went to see a old mate of mine who seemed to have raced anything with an engine at one time or another. Out of all the 500cc 2 strokes out there his said the KX would be a good choice. A few reasons he said, the power valve on the KX is driven only by the engine and has no fancy electronics to mess with like Yam, honda and suzuki. As it turned out the engine I had, was an earlier model anyway. But if one comes up say on Ebay it will fit with not to much trouble. Frank is a true master at what he does, its not just a job to him its a passion. Ha ha, when I first rang him with my idea he just laughed at me and told me I was mad. Then I reminded him that he had done a RG 500 he told me that he had told that guy the same thing aswell. So in the end I had to convince him to do it.

I will post up some more pics as things start to happen.

Ah the exhaust, this did start to be a real pain in the ass. Because the engine is from a bike more than 5 mins old getting parts for it is a pain. But after a few phone calls I found this guy who knows the owner of pro-pipe personally so after a few more call he said that he would dig out the old patterns and make one. Same price and free p+p from the States. $189. Then over to Frank's with it, where he said it was a arse to get to fit. But I think he has done a good job.

Picked up the beast from Frank's on Wednesday, been working at Bae in Salmsbury for the last week. Traveling up from Poole to pick it up was a real no go as it is 320 miles and 7 hours in a van. Had a quick tour around Franks workshop, very busy indeed. He has a lot of work on and the Scomadi's look the dogs in the flesh. The beast is now in the dinning room at home ha ha, I'm having a new shed put up at the moment as the garage is jam packed.

Hi all just a quick update. The new shed has been put up and is powered. But in the mean time my company went bankrupt and re-formed over night. This left people in my company including myself all over the world stranded. We had 6 in Germany, 2 in the States, 2 in Indonesia and 4 in Spain. Anyway I digress. Most of the body parts on the scoot are carbon fibre but the headset top and frame loop are not. So I took the plunge and covered them myself. This seems the wrong way to do it but the easiest way by far. If I had the time I would have made moulds then made the parts from that.

on the bench.

welded, filled and painted.

First coat of clear epoxy brushed on.

Carbon fibre laid on, this sticks to the tacky epoxy then is left to dry.

Image

Build up the epoxy to a thick layer then let dry over night.

Image

Then rub back to remove high spots and to give a key for the nexy 3-4 layers of epoxy. After the epoxy is dry and at the right thickness its time to rub back to a flat finish. I went from P120 git down to P1500 this in turn gives the right finish to clear coat or polish back.

The same thing was done to the head set top.

The head set top has been cut out, welded, filled and moulded to take an Acewell digital speedo.

The tank was next for the chop. It has been cut and modded to take an aero cap and a fuel sender fitted. Then re pressure tested. More picks by the weekend.
