im having this very problem myself with someone elses forks both the bottom "shoes" are ovcer to one side and thats how they were welded ive had to cut the welds and straighten them enough to make the wheel in the center of the legs and also to make sure the wheel doesnt lean over one way without my proper fabrication table it has been a nightmare gettin it right

yea the problem with these is the fork shoes and main stem are on the same axis and look ok but the fork legs are on an angle to them so the stem and fork shoes both have to be moved over or the forks will look bent

I have emailed the party concerned and will post their reply. In the meantime, as it's just the boot that is twisted (could this be from the factory ) and everything else on the forks is now straight, can these be used as is, or do they still need repairing, that's if is it repairable?

TBH its doubtful if it came like that out of the factory IMO.

A basic check is to see if a steel rod can pass thru both holes, which it obviously doesn't. Any enginner/ repairer should know this, and this obviously hasn't been done following the "repair"

I wouldn't consider using them like this.

he is right i'm affraid.

For the holes in the links to be in line (and therefore for your wheel to be in line) the holes in the forks need to be inline.

Is it possible to do this myself with a vice and a long bar, opinions or suggestions please?

id say not without any heat i recone the shoes will distort before anything gives the fork leg needs to be cherry red to move it im not going to the jig untill next week at the earliest so i cant send you any pictures of how we do ours (john does most of it) we get the fork legs and stem right first ,then clamp the fork legs and straighten one shoe by heating on the weld or just above then put a set square up the shoe till its 90 deg to the plate the forks are clamped to metal plate (jig) then do the other side the same , then put the bar in and check if its near (most of the time it is)we just tweek both till there right and put the bar through then we reheat all the areas agian as sometimes stresses built up (so in effect we stress releave the forks) and one leg will ping back
sounds long winded but normally takes about 15-30 mins we use oxy/acet which gets hot very quick and has a good local area heating ability
