Does it contaminate Vespa clutch plates? The answer to that question would be no.
BTW, I am using a non-detergent 30w engine oil.

Thats not quite what I meant... If you put 30w oil in and run it, that will absorb into the corks, then when you switch to 90w the corks will be all full of 30w oil

No problems as of yet. I usually buy a new set of corks as soon as I've used the last set and put them in ma' soaking tub(30w). They may sit there for a month until another clutch job comes along....
