All of the old ones in the spares drawer are brass and they came off old original bikes.
Chris
........come on Chris get that `60`s head back on, we are talking Mods here!!.......don`t you remember back then if a bit of zinc plate got worn off and you could see brass, then the Solvo Autosol came out and you were the rest of the day, just to make the bike pretty before you went out on it......it was the best looking bike which was talked about not so much the fastest as the tuning was almost none existant except for the GT200 which Don Noys and some top speeders were playing with.....brass is self lubricating, that`s why it was used on things that you had to adjust, the steel would corrode, especially down by the wheel....you probably polished those in your draw while you were asleep dreaming of the past, like i do

.......

I'm with Bristolmod, definitely not convinced they were all zinced.
I've seen far too many dull looking brass ones over the years. I can't believe these were all polished up by hand after somebody discovered they happened to be brass under a zinc finish.....Somebody who has some evidence and knows for sure will be along shortly......

I have no evidence other than my memory which is usually pretty good... my GP150, new in 1971 had brass.

The Italian GPs I've had didn't have the brass wheel but the steel hex head on front and back,

by my own comment.

My observations are in no way reliable, but those original scooters I've seen generally seem to have brass on the rear brake only and alloy on the front.

Well, that sounds ugly so we'll ignore them
OK, brass in one corner, zinc in the other. Last one standing is the winner...

On my totally original Series 2, the brake adjuster wheels are brass front and rear.
