metal bits on magnetic drain plug ?
DO NOT RIDE THE BIKE ! A friend of mine had a rear wheel completely lock solid just 2 weeks ago luckily he was just pulling out of a junction and so was only at walking pace imagine if it had been 40 or 50mph. On investigation it was found to be a collapsed endplate bearing that had broken up and locked the gearbox .
Strip the chaincase/ gearbox untill you find the problem.

I was supposed to go out on my lammy chop the other week.
It started OK then stalled as sson as it was put into gear.It would start again then stop, kickstart was solid.
Stripped it down and found a tooth broken off the 2nd gear on the christmas tree
Some chips off loose gears also
I haven't used the scoot since Euro but had been caning it around all weekend and to Lincoln and back on the Sunday!
Thank god it didn't lock while I was riding it.

I do not try to explain why I ride Lambrettas,
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary,
For those who don't, no explantion is possible.
