I had a look at my 225 engine that''s in my LI to compare and see where the shaft was. I've been running the 225 since 2005. But it looks like the shaft is way out of position.

When in 4th gear the selector almost touches the mount for the rear shock.
When in 1st it's in the same position as the picture above.

The only thing I can think of is the setting of the sliding dog on the layshaft. Have I got it wrong?

Is this second gear?

I've got 10mm of space to the rear shock mount when it's in fourth. The book says it needs to be 5mm, but I can't get that.

I really think I'm going to have to take a chance with this position. Considering how far out my 225 engine is, this engine build should run, shouldn't it? I can't see what other option I have.

Thanks for the input. Appreciate it. :)

Try pushing the selector into 3rd and 4th, then one more for good luck, the ball bearing should drop out on the 3rd push thus proving you did have it set in 2nd all along.

Problem solved. There was no problem.

I put the 4th 3rd and second gears in then moved the selector and there it was. in second gear with the selector in the right place. Don't know why I didn't see this.
