The cost ends up to be almost the same as if you buy a whole kit, but you have a personalized kit, not something everybody has. There are barrels alone sold sometimes. Also this permits you to not having to pay the whole amount of cash at once (for me it is quite something since I am always skint), you can get the barrel, then have the tuning whenever you like and have enough cash to do it.
Had very similar advise of Dan only the other day.

tuners like rough kits because it gives them something to fix, its how they make a living. if its a road going touring bike then off the shelf every day of the week.
piston breaks...order another.
barrel gets stolen by alians....order another
crank goes.....order another
bespoke tune....anything goes.....call the aa.
we had a series of mishaps in france this year and all were fixed by buying parts localy off the shelf. we had the option of odering for next day delivery from the uk.
my mbd exotic tune went bang last summer, im hoping to fit the engine at the weekend. no disrespect to tuners but its a decision that the rider has to make.
i have a foot in both camps.....head says off the shelf....heart says model a with a hyobusa engine grip filled in.

Well, our Harry Barlow tuned engine has withstand 12hours of non stop race thrashing plus my potting round the Isle of wight and Portsmouth last year. I guess maybe is just happening to be a very well put together engine? I'll never know. But I'll never adventure further than Barthalona and it surroundings with it or something similar to it (unless of course i am loading it in my Kangoo and take it for a little fun trip).
However, if I am willing to go into frog land or to Morrocco on a Lambretta (or further), you bet my wages on the fact that I will never be going on a tuned machine. I will always take a totally bog standard engine, even more, I will do it on a 150GP standard barrel engine with standard 22 carb, standard exhaust, standard piston and standard everything. And take spares of everything.
Just my humble approach,
J.
P.S: Nick, send me please your address bro, I would like to send you something.

But i have to say he does have a can do mentality and will fix 99% of breakdowns where i just cry a lot and look for my AA card or someone who can fix 99% of breakdowns

We all know that Nicky has a gift for crafty on the side of the road. Still recall that IOW when him and Danstarstream fixed Andy's vega in a heartbeat. But there are those of us who aren't that skilled my friend... By the way, don't dismiss HB that quickly, we all know he is like McGiver...

£94 + cost of re-bore to a 70mm piston= £120. Cheaper than a new kit. I know that's a lot of money but is there some logic going on here.
