Yep - there's always next year :(

I could almost taste the old rosie at the bay horse :D and definately needed it after waiting for the RAC to turn up - the thing that pissed me off most was the fact that I've just renewed my insurance (effective from the 29th) that comes with recovery - I could have gone to rally with that and back with the RAC

i agree with what you say but if there an underlying problem like incorrectly profiled port be it to big, to shallow or flaired outwards this would have some bearing on the problem and if "proved " might help not just yourself but others as well, as is often said on this forumdealers and other make mistakes or sell faulty goods sometimes ,it how the rectify the problem the makes them stand out be that good or bad

save yourself money&heartache, throw the thing in the bin.Get yourself a cheap kit for
the rest of the summer then put a better quality kit on during the winter.I know of at
least 3 of these kits going in the same place including my own.
Put something on the wanted page, somebody must have something lying in the
corner of the garage.

What do you mean ' going in the same place' ? as in failing in the same place or as in thrown in the bin ?

Well the diagnosis by MB is that the cylinder is indeed knackered :?

It may have been re-boreable to 71mm but it was touch and go and that would have been it's limit if something else happened.

So a new kit on it's way...

the first rapido i had wasnt even bored right it was oval!!! didnt find out till after 3 pistons , Ron Phillips of Fharon engineering sorted it for me, and the late Dave Betts tuned it for me,,, its the one i sprint now and regularly top the ton on it ,, might be worth getting it checked from brand new,, oh and it sat on the p155 so had to have a bit took off the bottom,,,

If Dave was around- I'd have been round there this morning getting it sorted out - I blame him anyway after his dyno wragging session :D

Would it be pretty reasonable to assume that later kits have these problems sorted or just wishful thinking?

The thing that seems to be getting the most blame is that both times it was an Escorts piston

No I think they still come through with the same faults... Mine were the same Bought one of the first 200 Rapidos and two more shortly after for other peoples engines ALL Oval & Tapered Bores... Then bought Two 225 Classics One was Ok the other had 1 thou clearance... I think its down to IF they get missed on final inspection..
