Quirk of the engines setup Id say, changes in altitude will affect the air fuel ration too.

Could someone explain "four stroking" for me please. Never sure of what it means.

I used the expression to mean the scoot was stuttering & running a bit erratically but it probably doesn't mean that. Sounds good though. Makes me sound like I know what I'm on about.

Could be his engine is marginal in ideal conditions, so any change like the hot weather immediately makes a difference. Or it could well be worn carb components
4 stroking generally means its over rich and the engine sounds like its making 2 beats for each engine turn rather than 1, making it sound harsh and rough. It usually smooths out with more revs and in higher gears

4 stroking usually occurs when you back the throttle off slightly and it sounds like a machine gun. Its actually firing every other stroke like a 4 stroke motor hence the term.

Some years ago I built an Imola kitted scooter. In the Winter it flew along happily. But when hot Summer days arrived it would splutter in mid-range. I spent time changing the Atomiser and needle position (several times) until it just stopped spluttering in Summer. I found the next Winter, it still ran O/K.
