As if to prove myself wrong, I managed to squeeze six Camlam plates & steels into standard components yesterday (the crownwheel was de-rivetted & the slots deepened prior to reassembly with M5 button head socket screws tapped into the sprocket part)
The only significant modification was to recess a pressure plate where the circlip fits, allowing it to sit higher. Whilst it was in the lathe, I skimmed it front & back as it was one of those that had rubbed for it's whole life on the kickstart & gone concave!
There was over two & a half turns of the compressing tool for clearance, so that may be enough after a little settling in of the whole assembly.
With luck, it will be tried later/post NYE shenanigans........
