As if to prove myself wrong, I managed to squeeze six Camlam plates & steels into standard components yesterday (the crownwheel was de-rivetted & the slots deepened prior to reassembly with M5 button head socket screws tapped into the sprocket part)

The only significant modification was to recess a pressure plate where the circlip fits, allowing it to sit higher. Whilst it was in the lathe, I skimmed it front & back as it was one of those that had rubbed for it's whole life on the kickstart & gone concave!

There was over two & a half turns of the compressing tool for clearance, so that may be enough after a little settling in of the whole assembly.

With luck, it will be tried later/post NYE shenanigans........

Thinking laterally, rather than mess with the clutch and its symptom of heaviness, graft in one of the motorcycle, much more efficient worm gear activation mechanisms like Reedspeed(?) and Rimini do. Reputed to give the lightest activation.
