I'm the same age, but zero patience. I would have rolled out the angle grinder or similar and cut the f888er off. No time for hissing about.

Not having anything in the garage would really bring me down.

Thanks johnny650.I hope I get out,but I doubt it,its always raining or snowing here.When the temperature hits 0 degrees out go the gritters and it ruins your scooter when there is salt on the roads.

Yeah there comes a time, maybe there not for you? but a modern auto really takes the stress out of Scootering and once someone like yourself has been there done it and got all the medals why worry?, you got nothing left to prove, just embrace and relax...

I'd go along with that. All the pleasure without so much of the hassle. And it keeps you on the road.

Once the prices come down to an affordable level they'll start it all up again. There's a small group of young lads up in Derry who're getting into classic scooters, doing the sort of stuff my generation did in the 80s, finding cheap scooters getting them on the road and generally messing about on them. I recon it'll come full circle again.

If you want something abit more modern (auto/elec start) why not convert your existing bike?
Granted some auto conversions look s**t and stand up about 10ft at the back but they can be done to look good.

I read this post ages ago and I'm wondering if prices have dropped. Here in Australia we are in mid Summer and all of sudden a heap of Lambrettas have appeared for sale on the local trading app called 'Gumtree'. I have to say the prices are generally astronomical as most of the scoots have some form of compromise. For example $12k AUD for a Series 3 Li 150 with a few engine mods. That's around 6k quid !!. Sure there is a supply issue here with only so many in the country, but the enthusiasts are limited in numbers, mainly older Poms. I keep looking at Scooter Trader and the prices in the UK seem to be steady and relatively unchanged. The rare and desirable scoots always demand a premium. Any thoughts on the market right now and where is it going?

i could of bought a brand new jet 200 in 1980 for 750 p0unds what could i sell it for now.instead i bought a tv 200 ,sx 200,sx150 for a combined amount of 325 quid,what would they be worth now nothing as i would not sell them,iam 58 years old and have 2 lambrettas even when i can no longer ride them i will not sell them as i so regret outing my old ones along with an rs 2000 [another story]please keep it and enjoy what you had and the history you had with it ,just my opinion nick b

Yeah- I'm the sad sod that sold an Escort Cosworth Lux about 15 years back for £11500- saw one today sold at £92500...........thats why I drink!!
