i simple solution might be to forget about getting the pick up height correct and just fit an external pick up from scootronics, pretty easy to fit and easy to adjust.

I hadn't considered the external pick up ! I've been like a dog with a bone determined to get it to work as it should. The scooter is an import and I'm keen to get it MOTed and registered, I may well get the external pick up but I'll try shiming the pick up first. Thanks for suggesting an alternative solution, much appreciated Holty.
