Thanks everyone. Seems like this is the problem, it took over an hour to drain the tank. I had the same problem before  but was convinced it was sucking air in some where.

How does it rev to oblivion with the symptom of an air leak ? I'm guess that with no fuel it sucks more air through the carb?

I've not read the whole thread about newly made OMG fuel taps but this is one. The last time I had a similar problem  the tap seems like it was blocked up a bit by crap from the tank but I'm wondering if the tap is crap. I'll put another tap on a feedback. :)
an air leak gives too much air and not enough fuel, the correct mixture of both is very important on any engine, but very important on a 2 stroke as the fuel coming in does a lot of cooling, when you restrict the fuel you end up with a lots of air and not much fuel, much like an air leak, i would fit a fast flow tap if its a tuned engine, also examine the inside of the tank for debris, clean it out, clean the carb as well, also do a flow test when fitted, a pint of fuel in i minute is what your looking for and you should be fine.

So I put on another fuel tap and away she went. Just down to jetting it properly now.

Thanks once again everyone. :D
