When you say 'pinch the sides of the throttle arm tight' do you mean the lips of the brass wheel?

I take it that you're talking about the brass throttle roller wheel in the headset, if so NO, as Bazza says it's the throttle arm on the carb that may need pinching to stop the small soldered nipple on the cable from pulling through.
