I have trawled the Internet looking for ratings for the motorcycle regulator/rectifiers but there is a significant lack of information on nearly all of them, including the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers replacement parts.
So I' m going to take a couple, rig up a test system with a 100w (55w high beam,21w Brake light, 5w back light and 19w to spare ) inductive load and see what happens.
So for the price of a few a pints I can have some fun, light the Christmas tree and possibly find a cheap viable alternative to the wassel or have a couple of interesting paperweights and a bloody good story.

Yes, they do but we have a single manufacturer item, which has gone up by 25% in the last year.
If either the supplier runs into trouble/stops making them/has a manufacturing issue then there isn't an alternative, or we end up at the mercy of a load of back street dodgy dealers.
To give you an idea of the issues out there. Swiss automotive 712 is a regulator only, ( cheers coaster) but is advertised by some as a regulator rectifier, the Swiss 750 looks the same but is a regulator rectifier. None of which quote power ratings.

Loving that plan Meds, I've had loads of fun experimenting myself. Bought some high quality heavy duty coil wire and re-wound the lighting coils on 2 of my stators. No real improvement in output but both have been pretty reliable.
Had a go at running an HID headlamp £5 off ebay) to a Jockeys headlamp unit and WOW, amazing result.
So please do experiment, I'd be very interested in a cheaper alternative as it would be nice to carry a spare or 2

coaster, there was an article in JET SET a few years ago using a 35 amp 400 w bridge rectifier that i did on my GP, all i wanted to do is convert my brake light and horn to DC, it worked for many years trickle charging the battery , in fact i,m thinking of doing the same on my AC series 2 so i can have a USB charger on my legshield toolbox.

Good to see people pushing the envelope by experimenting, but it does seem like a lot of trouble to avoid using a Wassell, even if it does cost a massive £27.50 off eBay.
Inexpensive, reliable, compact, understandable. I can't fault the Wassell set up and use it on all my scooters.
