If the scooter had been running fine i'd also check your meter. Some of these cheap meters can give false readings. Check the meter against a known resistance or check another stator.

Yes Mick that did occur to me as well as the meter I have is years old and rarely gets used. I may invest in one of the more basic Fluke meters for around £40.

I've had some stators give wildly out readings but work perfectly well. I've also had ones giver perfect readings but not spark or misfire like mad, even when aligned correctly with trigger height!

Anthony Tambs explained that the resistance test on a pickup is pretty meaningless. I think there are 2 coils in series with a load resistor in parallel with each one and its the resistance of the resistors that gives you the 95-115 ohms reading. Apparently the proper way to test is by using a reactance meter.
