wise move. The seat is the brass bit that the float needle sits in. These unscrew from the carb body on PHBH

Check the number on the side of the seat, it really needs to be as big as possible, 300 or 350 so if it's smaller it would be wise to go bigger while you are at it.

Why is that? Does it let more fuel through?

Hi, I use Wasp for my 30mm phbh spares, very reaonable with promt delivery (£1.49 for small packets).
Below is (hopefully) the URL for a 300 float valve (can't remember if I have 300 or 350 in mine, but you want 300 at the very least)

Thanks I'd wondered what that was when I stripped the carb. Mine is a 225 (I wrote it down at the time).

Took the carb to shop and they spotted an issue. The little tab bit on the float was bent down, meaning that the needle was not closing the valve. I've refitted and it seems to be ok now. Just want to see if it will still start today just to be sure!

What's the little washer for in the picture?

its a fibre washer, goes between the carb body and float valve.

That's what I thought. I dont recall one being present on mine. I wonder if that would cause any problem in terms of getting too much fuel..

Any other suggestions on why this might happen? I've replaced the float, the needle valve and seat and it's still happening.

Float does not seem sticky
