I had one in my Avanti 225 for a few k miles with no issue and another in my TS1 which managed a 1000 mile tour of Germany last year and the Derby 150 LCGB run but started slipping badly a few weeks ago. Couldn't see anything wrong with it when I removed but have now installed an AF 6 plate road clutch in it's place. I will check those steels for flatness though, some were swapped for thin ones
I had a chance discussion with a mate over my problem and his had a similar issue, he advised checking the spider/basket/plates and steel for burrs and nicks that stop the plates sliding freely as well as bent steels.
So I have bought some LTH + plates which will be fitted Next and tested next week.
Well took the clutch apart,
I noticed that the clutch was compressing at a slight angle.
There wasn't any binding between the steels and plates.
One steel plate had some burrs which I filed off
Some of the spider fingers had some burrs, cleaned them up
Rebuilt the clutch then gave the springs a good waggle, and heard 2 of the springs click into place.
The clutch compresses evenly and seems to be working ok but haven given it a good run yet.
I have noticed that
1, the scoot is easier to wheel, so I always had some drag
2. Had to tighten the cable quite a bit, so the new clutch was sitting lower in the basket (that may be the new plates)
I suspect that my spings haven't been sitting quite right, causing uneven clutch operation.
