If you can live this is most of us do, just put a bulb horn on once a year for the MOT, they are allowed pre-1973 and that will sort things easily.
Shaun.
Nope: Must have a 'continuous' tone on the horn (flippin eck even Victor Meldrew knows that!) for the MOT (when was the last time you rode Lambro'[?)
The real answer in this situation is to turn up the tick over on the scooter to +/- 2000 rpm (or whenever the 'dimming' stops) and present it for MOT Tada!
Cheers
Light blue touch paper and retire.

Recommend the 25W bulb. Bright enough light even at tickover. It's what originally specced for these

If you don't mind stepping down from your high horse, and learn the facts before replying!
Bulb horn is perfectly accepatable pre-1973.
"An audible warning device is usually an electrical
horn. A horn is defined as an instrument, not being
a bell, gong or siren, capable of giving audible and
sufficient warning of the approach or position of a
vehicle.
A motor bicycle first used before 1 August 1973
may be fitted with a bulb horn. "

Late update to this boys, did the job with a small-ish 12v2.5 A re-chargeable battery mounted in the toolbox and a DC horn and it really works well.
Miles better than the normal sqwark !
