My man's test for the shocker is to bounce the back end.

He does all his inspection on his knees with a torch.

Had that with the car, failed the car on shockers but as he could not bounce my loaded transit work van, that all ways passes,MOTs are a very grey area.

Only time i've ever taken panels off at mot was for the very first mot when he checked frame number. He's never looked under the panels since

If the panels are easily removable without any tools, we are allowed to remove them, that means Scooter sidepanels to get frame numbers (not allowed to take frame number from paperwork), fuel leaks, shocks, corrosion, engine mounts etc.
Same goes for bikes, pull off sidepanels can be pulled off for similar checks, Twist and twats normally need tools to remove, ET2/4s, GTS's etc, we lift the seat box out to check under that as well.

Bounce test has been removed for cars and vans now, no failure for 'negligible damping effect', still current on 2 wheelers though, as Digger said.

Hi, thanks for all your replies, i think i will err on the side of caution, as the panels are a b@5t@rd to get on and off, i will leave them off. Thanks again, Mick.

If you own an Audi A2, we testers would prefer if it you did,
Then we wouldn't have to put it to one side by the MOT bay, and pray no one steps on it, or drops anything on it.

Shaun.
I mis my Audi A2 ... but I put 'contaminated Diesel in it thanks to Morrisons at Ripon. Only time I ever dd it as well, normally only used Shell V Power but was stuck for some fuel :-(
