Some people would call it greed, but then some people are cheap and expect it for less than the owner paid for it. Seems just as bad to me.

Equally true.
I wouldn't say it is cheap to expect to pay less for something that has had no repairs/upgrades done after 2 years of running wear and tear nor paying the full price of any upgrades that similarly were put there for the owners benefit/enjoyment. What would you say if someone said to you , i'll buy your scooter for 18 months for £2K and do bugger all to it, put thousands of miles on it and then sell it back to you for £3K, oh yeah and you owe me £250 for an exhaust I put on t 10 months ago. I'd say that is greed. If it has been maintained to same standards as when bought no one can grudge a small profit ....but 50% etc is taking the p155, I know you don't have to buy but the knock on effect is everyone with something similar then thinks that is the value and a lot of people are then priced out....and a lot of people are left with scooters they don't want and are put in the shed till things 'pick up'. Like a lot of others I secretly would like to see a price crash , not to get a scooter on the cheap , just to see a lot of 'investors' getting burnt.Doom Patrol wrote:Some people would call it greed, but then some people are cheap and expect it for less than the owner paid for it. Surely as the value of the pound decreases you have to pay more pounds for it, and the eighties prices that people paid are gone!
Ageing fanbase.... Most 17yr olds don't want a dangerous slow noisy old scooter, they want low capacity quick plastic scooters.
For me, it's worth what people will pay, but £2000 ? Dreaming. Lovely scooter and to me it's worth the asking price.

Couldn't agree more.Muttley McLadd wrote:On the other hand, a lot of people pay a lot of money for stuff that is over priced cack.Doom Patrol wrote:Some people would call it greed, but then some people are cheap and expect it for less than the owner paid for it. Seems just as bad to me.
It's all very well to say it's "worth what someones willing to pay for it" but that's an individual viewpoint. Its better to base a price on a fair market value, certainly you'll find that if you wrote off your LI special and believed its worth £6000, you'll be lucky if your insurance pays out more than £3000.
Also, it cuts both ways, certainly I know of at least a few people that have come across widows selling scooters out of sheds (one a rally electronic, one a Li3) and neither paid more than £200 as the women didn't know if they were worth anything. So is the "what someones willing to pay" extend to the other end of the spectrum when it's taking money from a widow?
Donnie.

Willing to pay and willing to take are two different things. If I have something thats worth, for instance £200,but I'm willing to take £100 just to get rid of it and I get £100 for it,I wouldn't say that I was being taken advantage of.

That would indeed be an odd way of going about it. But, on the other hand that scooter could be reasonably standard, straight and reliable and the new owner might not want to kit it, with a new exhaust and all the go faster stuff. They might have been happy to maintain it and just enjoy it. I think that's fair enough. If they then decide to sell it's probably reasonable for the price to reflect the care and attention they've spent on it. You can't then turn around and say I'm not paying that because you haven't put an RB kit on it.immylam wrote:I wouldn't say it is cheap to expect to pay less for something that has had no repairs/upgrades done after 2 years of running wear and tear nor paying the full price of any upgrades that similarly were put there for the owners benefit/enjoyment.
