I repaired a hole in my car exhaust with bathroom silicone,was only supposed to be a temp repair but lasted months.

No the purpose is I'm rebuilding top end of my TS1, and upon removal of head I noticed no gasket, but there was a clear silicone gel on the edges where the gasket normally would finish, so assumed silicone had been used instead of a gasketIlango wrote:Silicone sealants can be used elsewhere as a replacement for gasket.dazz-uk wrote:Can I use locitite silicone sealent as a head gasket replacement?
At the head where the fuel burns, temperatures could easily rise beyond 300 deg C, where the Silicone sealant would brake down and get charred.
So please check the usable temperature range for the sealant.
Is bumping the compression ratio the sole objective of this exercise?

Personally I use Hi Temperature Silcone (Hermatite I think). It's designed to work at cylinder head temps and I have never experienced any issues with it with or without gaskets.
