Crank in the freezer, bearing collar in just boiled water, just a few slight taps required with correct size drift / long socket supporting the crank against your body as per Stickys book or use a web spacer to stop any twisting

On on that didn't go well. Removing the bearing race with a grinder, put hose clamps on for protection and went slowly and carefully but no crack line appeared , at least to my old eyes, and have ended up putting a flat on the nearing surface of the crank. Guess I'll get a new crank built at least can rescue the con rod ! Painful lesson learnt !

I think your crank will be fine like that just use some bearing retainer

Was just thinking of Health and Safety...grinding unprotected and all that...
PS agree with shocky that'll clean up.
