The end plate bearing is making the spider sit slightly too high. Or the end plate itself is sitting high, I can't see how though ?

The endplate bearing goes in to a certain depth and is held in place by a circlip,so if the bearing is fitted correctly and the circlip is in position it cant be that that is causing the problem. The endplate sits flush in the engine case and if this is fitted with its base flat in the case and not on top of a washer or washers, then this cant be the problem.

Ok, I think that it Must be the clutch spider that I bought at the parts fair then. Given that the clutch Christmas tree is the hollow type maybe it's the wrong one for this gear box?

Hi mate have you got a spare basket so that you can compare the heights of the clutch basket, that way you will see if the new one is a 4 or 5 plate type, check also on the shoulder that faces the end plate, see if that is the same height as a standard as some were slightly taller making the complete clutch raised taller, I had one like this a while ago that I bought off fleabay and now know why it was cheap  ....hope this helps..... 8-)

I have on in my series two but don't really want to take it out as I'm waiting for SGS to come and inspect it. I think I will just order a new spider from a reputable dealer
