The comments on that petition are hilarious.

I remember having a conversation with an engineer from Hesketh (remember them?) The sound limit of 83dB (?) had just been introduced and they could not get then new bike through the test - even with the engine switched off. Just the tyres, chain and wind noise pushed it over the limit.

The idiots in power can pass whatever stupid law they like, and they probably will. To make any difference they still have to get it enforced. If Mr PC can't tell between 79, 80 and 81 dB then the legislation is just verbage in Hansard.
Of course they could frame enabling legislation, "In the opinion of Mr PC, the vehicle was too loud" No objective proof required. Simple eh? And above all cheap to enforce and show the punters they mean business as The Party of Law and Order. (little bit of politics!!!).

That is a problem - things against the law in the opinion of Pc Pork Dripping. A man who, likely as not, can't even explain the unit of dB, let alone pass any kind of 'expert' test.

So, if we ran over his foot because he never heard us coming, would he still be an expert mmmmmmmm like the idea of that

Mot testers don't even check your noise level.

It varies wildly with weather conditions or small change in distance or orientation of the measuring instrument. If the only thing you're interested in is the sound generated by the exhaust gasses exiting the pipe, then that's not so difficult, but you need to be in still air at standard atmospheric pressure and humidity.

The only place where noise testing is routinely done is the track where they typically have 100+ bikes to do in a meeting.

This isn't going to affect us........

Adam couldn't agree more !! My GP 200 stage 4 has a really noisy expansion chamber on it.......even I cringe when I get it out the garage and start it up early ......but I wouldn't change that 'crackling' sound as she fires into life, it's great !!
