Sounds like a short from the stator loom to the frame. The motor is moving when it goes off the stand.

That's the first place I'd check.

The first thing I checked was the Stator, I didn`t take it off but did the Stickies Ohm check and it is right on the money.

I started her up again today and now I`m blowing white smoke. Damn you drive side oil seal!

I have to whip out the engine now anyway, so I will do a full check of the electrickery and fit a new cdi and HT lead in the process.

One thing I didn`t check was the HT lead, Doh. Thats proberbly where I should have started.

Thanks for bearing with me on this fella`s...

Decided to play it smart and sort this out before I sort my seal.

Footboards off and I can now kick the scoot over with the stand up. Fires up first kick but cuts out as soon as I sit down so it isn`t stand related.

Carb seemed a little loose, so remounted that and tightened it down.
HT lead felt loose on the plugcap and plug and that has been tightened down.

Next step is to remove rear brake cable to see if that is interfeering with the plug cap when I sit down.

EURIKA!

Brake cable was lifting up the plug cap, just enough to cut the engine.

:D

Time to whip out the motor and swap the seal. Thats a relief.

Funny realy that it ran fine for a year without it happening before.

Whats the best way to run the rear brake cable?

At the mo I have an extented top-hat and run it over the carb.

Here is the culprit...

In my defence you can`t see the split until you bend the rubber. It must have been pressed over by the rear brake cable and shooting the spark on the frame, instead of the plug.

Have to say that i am pleased I found it before I started the engine strip.

Glad you found it. That's exactly what I had last week at jesters. But I now have a plastic spark plug cap and new ht lead, CDI and still running like a dog. Stator reads ok so it's strip down time again..

And a beer from me!

Silly realy, should have been the first thing to check but it was funny that it cut out when the stand went up.

:D
