Hi, the bit in the green circle is a dowel, see picture below:
I have never had one of these come out, thats not too say they dont, but I have never seen one.
I did forget to say that is is better to undo the clutch centre nut so the Xmas tree comes out with the sidecase.
Again, some cases allow/have been modified for the Xmas tree to stay in, but as we don't know on yours, undo the 17mm nut in the middle.

This would make sense, but I would leave well alone, personally.

Do you mean the nut i this picture?
I am a complete novice when it comes to Vespa engines and what what nut relates to which engine engine part

Sorry mate, was getting pissed in Scarborough for 3 days and only just catching up on the forums
The nut you have shown is the crank one, that cab be left in and the nut you have removed witht he clutch is the Xmas tree one.
Gently wiggle and tap the sidecase (if ALL nuts and bolts are removed, even the backward facing ones).
Then it should be free.
Shaun.

Nice one
If you want to make that engine slightly less weighty, I could swap that heavy four speed box for a lightweight racing 3 speed one
Only joking
What are your plans??
What scooter is it??
Shaun.

Its a V90 with a primmy engine in it. Picked it up as a barn find about 5 years ago and not touched it since. It came with a load of spares too - 2 primmy headsets and hubs, tanks, forks and the old v90 engine casing and some of the internals, but not all of them - no crank or barrel for example. No idea where they went to. Apparently there were two scooters once but dont know what had happened to the Primmy frame or the other missing parts to make up the rest of the missing scooter. Anyways I cant grumble as it was a bargain. As for plans I am on a limited budget and I'm also trying to construct a new engine for my GP so that's eating into the limited funds I have....but... in my mind I intend to see what condition the engine internals are in, see what needs replacing and what parts could be upgraded to give it a little more poke. I know naff all about small frame tuning but in my mind I'm wondering if there is a nice little kit I could fit alongside a better pipe and larger carb - hopefully without breaking the bank. As for the frame I will probably leave it in its tatty shape for now and then when funds allow I'd like to get some PK forks and fit a disc brake but that's a long way off. Failing that I will get it blasted and powder coated to save a few quid.
Having watched the sausage video thing I think I should be able to just hammer the gear box and crank free of the casing. Is that right?

No, don't do that.
Strip the gears off first, large circlip and try to remember what way off they came.
Then tap the shaft whilst being careful not to damage the selector, which is like a Lambretta one, wiggle and tap and wiggle and pull (in that order sort of).
I am not to clued up on the various kits for Smallies, I like the DR as a basic upgrade, Malossi as a faster but useable kit, the one I am doing at the moment I will be leaving the 90 top end on (I think).
The Smalleframe forum is ace for advice, but some of the guys are so clued up on the ins and outs, it goes way over my head
Shaun.
