Thanks for all the replies, I've been away for the weekend so haven't had a chance to reply.

If this is the case, then is something wrong with my lighting coils because as I said in my original post I am only getting between 8 and 11 volts from my stator pre regulator. The 11 volts is when it is revving hard.

You'll only measure higher than that, if you measure the voltage with the stator wire disconnected from the reg. Once connected the stator, itself, is regulated.
I take it when you were measuring, it was all connected? Were the lights on?

Then, yes, you have a problem with the stator. Check you haven't pinched a wire and all solder connections are good.

It could also be a poor/lose earth connection on the stator. The earth wires are all soldered to a small tag which is riveted in place, these often work lose and cause a high resistance. The remedy is to remove and tighten using a ballpein hammer. If you connect your meter on ohms between the earth from the stator and the mag housing you should get very near zero ohms. Much more and it would indicat a lose earth tag or dry joint
