The best way to purchase a helmet (in my humble opinion) is to buy based on its ability to save your life.
50 road deaths per year could be prevented if safer helmets had been worn.
And as for the chinless wonders who think they are immune, the chin area is 35% most likely to be the area of impact in a crash.
For a saftey rating on a helmet you already own, or are thinking of buying, punch your helmet make/model into this page and see how safe your head is:

You might get a shock!!

Interesting that there are eight helmets under a hundred quid that are rated at five stars.
If the testing is properly independent and what the factory sells and what they submitted for testing are the same thing (not guaranteed with China!) then they're worth a look

Sharp buy the helmets at the retailers so the companies don't get to submit ringers

And Arai & someone else 'big name, big price' do their own testing...

First of all, Lidl helmets aren't £100, they are closer to £40.
Caberg are the brand Ive been using now for about 5 or 6 years and they are very good, proper kite mark, proper make, my current one is the V2 which is about £90 brand new, sometimes less if you shop about online and it's got a 5 star Sharp rating and is ACU approved for use on track!
How much farther do you go when considering a helmet?
Now what people are forgetting is the fact that a £500 helmets not necessarily better protection at all than a £100 or even £50 helmet, the difference is in other areas, ie, features, quality of buckles, clips and visors, soundproofing etc etc. Thats what you pay the extra for.
So, remember price isnt related to protection at all, thats what the sharp ratings etc are for. Don't be fooled.
