Hole in float, allowing the heavy float to sit lower and fuel levels to rise/overflow?

Jeez! This is turning into a bit of saga. When I last checked it over I managed to lose the float pin, so I've had to wait to order some other parts to replace it. Finally I went and fitted the replacement today hoping that the issue would of decided to go away - having checked the float for any issues - but it's still happening. So I realised I've got a spare float in another carb but how do you get the pin out when they don't have a sticky out but to grab it with? The one I lost was longer than the hole it fitted in to!

I can only think with a magnet and I don't have one.
