Thanks all for taking the time to reply. The summary of suggestions is, Dave Webster (ordered this), a link to an online manual by Gordon Jennings and Graham Bell, this one sounds good, so will hunt this down too.

Eden, I think your line "pay some one else to do it" is the way I will go, but want to be in a position where I can scribble down a brief and then we have something to talk around and also I like to understand stuff.
