I have earthed one of the wires that usually goes to wassell yellow.
Everything looks ok even comparing it to the diagrams in stickys book.

Could it actually be the rear brake switch is causing the probs?

The yellows come from each end of the four lighting coils. These are connected to the two yellows on the rectifier. The black usually goes to earth and the red to the battery / loom.

For a vespa type regulator you connect one yellow to the regulator and the other to earth. The feed out of the regulator should go to the loom. Effectively you cross connect all the loom wires to this feed.

I think from your description you may have a yellow and a black coming from the lighting coils - is this correct?

On the regulator a batt+ is usually a trickle feed to charge a battery, can you post a pic of your reg? That might help?

If you have a multimeter check that you have continuity between the black and yellow.

Where did the brown you mentioned come from?

The brown is from the loom that you connect up with the batt+ as it goes onto 1 wassell.

The black i have from the loom is technically a yellow, just didnt have yellow when i did the conversion. I do have a bgm dc stator to fit when i get sorted for some new bits like top end/...

The AC regulator is only a 3 pin so for the moment the battery isnt connected up.
Theres no markings on it for the pins but going by pics online the 2 pins next to each other are for the yellows amd the pin seperate goes to earth.

Its a normal Casa 12v loom like on the top of page 281 of the orange sticky book.

In that case it sounds like you gave connected everything correctly, are you certain that you have a good earth? have you checked them for continuity?

Why do you suspect the brake light switch?

I havent checked continuity but the earths have all been cleaned up and redone.
The brake switch had abit of corrosion on it which ive cleaned up, id asked as it was something i hadnt looked at. I know its only a cheapo one that will need to be changed at some point.

Managed to get it sorted before the daylight went.
Mustve been something at the headset end.
I took out all the wires and put on new end connections for the earth wires (again).
All working (on AC) now thankfully, especially as the mornings and evenings are getting darker for my commute.
Will look into the batt/wassell in the near future but AC for now will have to do.
Thanks for the help and pointers :-)
