If the stator is producing a too high voltage? It's the job of the regulator to cut it back to 12V (ish)
Sorry, are you saying that earths are unnecessary on 12v conversions??
What i'm saying is "festooning your scooter with 'earths' is unnecessary" Apply the appropriate earth connections and a 12V conversion will run fine.
The stator is 'earthed' to the cDi by the white. The Cdi has it's own earth which should go to frame. The Reg. has it's own 'earth' which should go to frame.
In the headset one 'earth' can be created for the lighting and off you go.
Some years ago, someone on either here or the LCGB forum, suggested also making an 'earth' connection from the fork-tube to the headset as otherwise we rely on metal to metal contact through bearings and cables. I thought this was good advice and have adopted it.
